The only other bit of business that had to be worked out was the scale shifting problem between GROVER as Kong and ELLEN as Anne. Johnny solved this perfectly by having ELLEN carry a doll version of herself. By simply handing the doll to GROVER and then moving back into the shadows an effortless shift in scale occured right in front of the audiences eyes.
Sometimes all the design work on earth can't achieve an effect this successfully.
(The doll we used was one I had created as a gift for Lorca Simons one christmas. It made one other appearance in a HIP POCKET play in ADVENTURES WITH JUNE AND SCOTTY as a mermaid puppet, ironically also "made' by the character I played in that show.)
