After KONG takes ANNE into the jungle the first Creature encountered by CARL DENHAM and the Sailors is the STEGOSAURUS. The final design of this Giant Puppet was actually based in part on the old vaudville two-man horse, as the flip-up shows. A simple wood frame with wire and fabric "fins" attached is covered in a painted and bronzed fabric "skin". Head and tail operated by rods. I used mirror shards for the eye surrounds of all the Monsters, along with shiny glass beads.
The effect was as intended: the natives had preserved a skin of the beast, decorated it and used it to frighten the white people away. In this rendering I show puppeteers, but in performance the actors playing the natives did the actual manipulation.
