And here is the STEGOSAURUS in the production. Sadly the lighting used back then (100 watt bulbs in tin cans mostly) makes it difficult to see the detail in this wonderful puppet. It certainly was effective as it rose up out of the fog.

The late, great RIC SWAIN, who created special effects for WAR OF THE WORLDS,  KING KONG  and a host of other HIP POCKET shows, put together the fog system that was so very effective in creating the atmosphere of Skull Island. He ran dryer vent hose up under the platforms and had a big 50 gallon drum brewing backstage with dry ice and water. When he lifted the gate the fog flowed through the vents and the low space was miraculously filled with thick white fog to a depth of about 18 inches.
I'll never forget the thrill I felt when I first saw this effect during rehearsal. It made the whole show work.
